Dance Physio Byron Shire

At Evolve Byron Bay we offer a full complement of Physiotherapy services specialising in dance including Injury Management, Screening Assessments for progressing Ballet Dancers to Pointe and progressive conditioning programs to improve turnout, pointe and functional stability specific to Dance and Ballet.

Dancers challenge their bodies in so many ways, and when it comes to choosing a therapist for injury management, technique assessment or conditioning it is essential that you have a therapist that understands this.  Having a strong personal experience with dance and a love of Ballet, I set about a journey to becoming a specialised Dance Therapist.    From taking up a senior therapist position at Dance Medicine Australia in Melbourne to training with Dance Physio experts Paula Baird-Colt from The Australian Ballet and Lisa Howes from Perfect Pointe,  I took all this education to create the best possible rehabilitation plans and performance enhancement programs to help young dancers achieve their goals.

In 2020 I am excited to continue with our weekly ballet conditioning class on Fridays but also will be bringing workshops to a number of Studios throughout the Byron Shire.   Even though I have toured as a Physio with a number of big companies and productions over the years, my passion is still working at the ‘grassroots’ level as this is where I feel the the biggest impact can be made.  Getting the right information about how to use the body most effectively early in life can prevent injury and greatly improve the chance of making it as a professional dancer.  I have also found that being a specialised dance therapist has helped put many parents at ease when concerned about the impact of Ballet and injury on their child.  They can be assured when things are done well, from a place of good form and stability, Ballet can be one of the best things a youngster can do for conditioning the body, mind and soul.

Seeing some of the young ballet dancers in the Byron Shire progress over the past 4 years has been nothing short of remarkable.  These young dancers work so hard and it’s very satisfying  to see them go on to achieve incredible things,  can’t wait to see what the future years bring!
